It was just a question of time until other tech companies made choices to ChatGPT when it was made available to the general public in November 2022.
Google’s reaction to OpenAI’s innovative chatbot, Bard AI, was introduced in the US & the UK in March 2023. Since then, A premium edition has been made available, and it has been called Gemini. How do today’s well-known AI tools stack up? Based on fresh testing done in March 2024. This guide to ChatGPT vs. Gemini highlights the major differences between the two.
Using Google’s LaMDA & PaLM 2 language models. Bard (now Gemini) was driven by Gemini Pro. Yet, after testing, I can say that Gemini produces better results than ChatGPT-3.5, which drives the free version of ChatGPT. The language model that drives Gemini Advanced, Gemini Ultra. Also, produced somewhat better images and answers than GPT-4, which drives ChatGPT ($20/month).
Since more and more companies are using AI in the workplace, I figured we’d see which one produces superior responses to a range of queries. This detailed head-to-head comparison of the two services covers:
Which Is Better, Gemini or ChatGPT?
Large Language Models (LLMs) and data sources are the primary distinctions between Gemini and ChatGPT. GPT-3, GPT-3.5, & GPT-4 have been used by ChatGPT. Users since, it was made publically available, whereas Gemini, before Bard, has been driven by many language models from, its February 2023 beginning.
Initially driven by LaMDA, Bard was more recently powered by PaLM 2. Compared to the LaMDAs, PaLM 2 has a far larger training set and is capable of arguing in more than 100 languages. PaLM 2 helped Bard become more proficient in Python and other programming languages. PaLM 2 is also trained using source code, math expressions, and science publications.
Chat GPT & Google Gemini Pro
In December 2023, Google launched Gemini Pro. Preliminary results suggest that Gemini Pro is superior to PaLM 2 in solving textual assignments and coding problems, which is also supported by our tests. The company has then released Gemini Ultra, which powers the new Gemini Advanced chatbot.
The Pro, Ultra, & Nano language models from Google are “natively multimodal,” meaning they have been trained using a range of inputs rather than simply text. Also, Google has improved the model by adding more multimodel data. They have real-time internet connectivity as well.
ChatGPT is driven by OpenAI’s GPT family of language models. ChatGPT’s free edition, which doesn’t use real-time data from the internet, is powered by GPT 3.5. It was trained using a set dataset that was last updated in January 2022 (initially in September 2021). ChatGPT and Gemini are taught using Common Crawl, Wikipedia, news stories, and a wide range of materials.
Only ChatGPT Plus users can use GPT-4, which is trained on a dataset with between 1 & 1.7 trillion parameters. Compared to Gemini Pro, which is said to contain 540 billion training parameters. But according to reports, the Gemini Nano versions contain anything from 1.8 billion to 3.25 billion qualities.
Some Important Differences Between Gemini vs ChatGPT
Other major differences between Gemini and ChatGPT include variations in language models and data sources:
- Conversational learning: ChatGPT can “hold context” and learn from the conversations it has with users, but Gemini currently only achieves this in a much more restricted manner.
- Drafts: By selecting “View Drafts,” Gemini will generate a number of answers to the questions you ask. ChatGPT only generates a single response for every question.
- Editing replies: Gemini enables users to make changes to responses after they has receive which ChatGPT does not allow.
- Internet access in real-time: Gemini has always had real-time Internet access, but ChatGPT has only recently added this feature and it isn’t available in the free version.
- Image-based responses: Since Gemini has always had internet connectivity, it is able to use Google Pictures. Users of Bard Advanced and ChatGPT Plus can now create original AI images.
- Ability to read replies out loud: ChatGPT lacks native tet-to-speech capabilities, although Gemini does.
Principal Findings of the Google Gemini vs. ChatGPT Tests
Here are some key conclusions from our recent use of Gemini and ChatGPT’s free and business versions of the chatbots before I discuss how they handled our series of well-chosen questions:
- Where ChatGPT’s answers were deeper and Gemini’s were more conversational.
- Gemini’s free version is superior to ChatGPT’s free version.
- But Gemini Advanced is just a bit better than ChatGPT Plus.
- With more images & links to websites, Gemini provides a better user experience.
- Gemini Advanced is better at creating AI images than ChatGPT Plus.
- Gemini’s views were frequently stated more clearly than ChatGPT’s.
- Gemini defeated ChatGPT at creating charts.
- Remember that Gemini and ChatGPT are created in real-time and provide unique responses to questions.
OpenAI vs. Google AI/DeepMind: The Bots’ Creators
Although they are owned and sponsored by separate companies, OpenAI and Google DeepMind (also known as Google AI) are the firms leading the way in the development of generative AI in the Western world.
ChatGPT was created by the AI firm OpenAI. The firm was founded in 2015, & one of its co-founders, Elon Musk, resigned because of a conflict of interest. Microsoft became a partner and made a $1 billion investment in 2019.
Although OpenAI developed ChatGPT in November 2022, the GPT language model has been accessible as a private beta since at least 2020. ChatGPT’s enormous success caught the corporation totally by surprise, & ever since, they’ve been rushing to catch up.
Google team that worked on Bard/Gemini the most closely was Google AI. Google Brain & Google Assistant are two of the major AI projects being worked on by the Google AI team.
Using ChatGPT and Gemini at Work
Companies in the IT industry and beyond have been coming up with creative ways to use ChatGPT’s features to improve their working lives. Since it was release last year. However, given its strength and potential, there are a few things that every company using AI should be aware of.
First, make sure employees understand what they can or cannot do with ChatGPT. Making Google Sheets formulae is one thing. Utilizing ChatGPT to create material or compose full articles raises several difficult problems with editorial integrity and plagiarism. You won’t have to put out AI-caused fires later on if you have clear directions.
Second, make sure that staff grasp ChatGPT’s terms & conditions and the safety measures listed. Theoretically, everything you type into ChatGPT usually use to train the model. Thus, users should be aware that ChatGPT stores their data & proceed with caution when entering any information. For example, I wouldn’t advise entering the secret sauce recipe for your restaurant into ChatGPT, if you want to make it better.
Choose an Effective AI Bot [Gemini vs ChatGPT!]
You might want to start using ChatGPT now if you haven’t already. Some firms are already saving a lot of time and money with it, and it will only get smarter and more powerful than its present version—the recent release of GPT-4 shows how rapidly this phenomenon is evolving.
